a couple years back i built a new 30 br with a bruno/mcmillan stock and a bat action......i have not shot much since the build, but it does not shoot small consistently like i expect out of a 30br...so gonna rebbl and see if it helps. current is a krieger, but am open to suggestions..what bbl for my 30 br ??? makers twist shapes

I went with a 1-17" Krieger HV cut to 24" and weighs 6 lbs. I haven't gotten to shoot it yet since the PPC keeps me so tied up, but I really need to get the scope mounted and a tuner for it and get after it. There are some good shooters that swear by Brux also.

Short game. I still prefer a button barrel, and most of the time it's been a Hart.
Longer games will be a cut Brux. It's a 7BR but currently playing with a Lilja for the
first time. I do my own work so at this point, although it shoots, it has not proven
better then my Harts.......Kreigers seem to be the most mentioned 30 BR barrel but
any barrel still needs the chambering to be spot on and a good bullet.....Look up
anything on Jackie Schmidt. Al Nyhus will have some good input.

thanks guys...i did this several years back when i had this rifle built, but now no happy and just checking to make sure what is the current normal in 30 br...my first br was a cleaned up 700 action and a used bb..i was the third owner..i i shot 6 zeros with it on one day....foolish me i had it rechambered...realllllly dumb

Lots of good barrels out there, I currently have 2 Brux barrels that are shooting great, my buddy has a kreiger and a Brux that are doing the same. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

I have put probably 15-20hart 30cal barrels on my buddies guns and my own over the years and they are very hard to beat. Kreiger and brux right there as well. Last year multiple guns in the top ten for IBS SSOY with those barrels and guns I built...allegedly.

There's so many good .30 cal. barrel mfgs out there. People are winning with Bartlein, Kreiger, PacNor, Brux, K&P, Hart, Lilja, Shilen, etc.

Quite honestly, if a 30BR is under performing with any good barrel on it....the barrel  itself is 'way down the list of things to suspect as the issue. Especially if 'under performing' is more along the line of inconsistency. 😜

Good shootin' :) -Al

al, LEAD me in trouble shooting. 4198 and lt30, 112 barts and 115 berger krieger 1/17, bat, 15-55 nf, mcmillian bruno stock , ....rare to get a low 2,,,,,az warm weather/dry

Throw a little N-130 in the mix if 4198 goes missing again, or Hodgdon goes nut's
again with the prices as they have been known to do. Vhitavuori seems to be the
most popular powder in my magazine......Now if N-120 would get back in the market ??

Lets start at the start. With H4198... neck clearance, neck tension and seating depth (from the Touch Point).

i tried the heavy tension and jam as suggested but got nowhere . went back to my normal 2 neck tension, somewhere off touch total clearance is between 2 and 3..i do not have actuals in front of me right now. did just order a bartlien 1/17

Pretty tough to diagnose this stuff long distance, other than just touching on the basics. Inconsistency could mean ignition issues, bedding, scope/mounts....any number of things either by themselves or combined.

Over the years, my .30's have been Lilja's, Kreiger, Rock Creek, Kostyshyn, Bartlein and PacNor. There was one truly 'bad' barrel in the mix, so it does happen. It was consistent as heck....just couldn't get it to shoot small with anything I gave it. It was locked into round little .3's no matter what I did. -Al

al. i did everything you guys suggested back when it was first built. then went to my process, neither worked..so changing the bbl

Good/bad barrel?? What works for one person may not work for you. Only YOU will know if it works for YOU!! And LOTS of trigger pulling isn't a bad thing. ;)
Got into the 6.8 SPC. Liked how it worked and that got me to thinking.
The 30 BR was a HOT ITEM at the time so if the 6.8 SPC was working so well, why not a 6.5 BR??
Dummy round, shipped off for specs and have a reamer cut. Reamer cutters says "that's a first in that caliber for us". Looked for a cheap .270 barrel so I didn't spend too much and not like the chambering.
Found a couple of "gunsmith barrels" for sale, Bid on both but could only get one. Been a while but thinking $125.00 ea.?
Cut a couple of chamber and you guessed it, "bug hole maker".
Remember, no two folks think alike. You may not like what I like.
The guy that ends up with your EX may think she's the GREATEST but you may hate her guts.

it aint new it was done over 20 years ago

If it won't shoot 33.8 gn of either LT-30 or H4198 you have a Tomato Stake. :)

I am having better luck with LT-30 lately.
