    6 x 47

Back when I was shooting a 6x47 I used 748 power and cramed as much in as I could, shooting a 65 gr. bullet. I did not chrono any of the loads, but would guess around 3300fps +/-. It was a difficult round to keep in tune, one day it was magic , the next it was mediocre. Still have a fair amount...

    Nesika Model C bore guide

Bore guide for a Rem 700 will work fine. I have a Nesika J , which is very similar to the C and I use a guide for the 700 in It. Just be sure to get the front O-ring size for a PPC chamber. FWIW Steve Kostanich

    6mm ppc and N133 H322

I had some 1990 vintage H322 the was super, set 2 records with it. The later stuff never performed as well. Sure would like some of the 1990 stuff again! FWIW Steve Kostanich

222 reamer specs for benchrest appliclation

I would not use a zero freebore. If you provide a dummy round with a bullet as has been suggested, that will generate the proper freebore. My guess would be a fb of .030" to .050", depending on the bullet ogive, is what you will end up with. FWIW Steve Kostanich

    Bolt Nose Contact

While just about every rimfire action has a counterbored bolt face, there is one exception. That is the Rem. 540/541 series. With those actions the bolt face is flat, no counterbore, The barrel breech is counterbored for the cartridge rim to fit into. As such there is a possibility with just...

    Darker-Colored Bullets?

I agree with George U. I have made bullets on Sierra .810" 6mm jackets, and all were unpolished. I obtained the jackets in the early 90's. The 22 jackets looked the same. If the bullet measures .808 to .812 overall length, it is surely a Sierra. FWIW SteveKostanich

    Scope recommendations

Dave 50, You are spot on about the original Leup. 36x scopes. I have 6 of them, and all have been perfect except one. That one simply is not crystal clear, and has been back to Leup. twice with no improvement. Two of them are the original friction focusing system on the very first version of...

    Scope recommendations

Canuck, If you are serious about shooting formal BR, check what your rifle weighs without a scope/mount set up on it. The 10.5 max is what you want with a scope, that allows you to shoot in all 3 varmint classes. Subtact what your rifle weighs without the the scope from 168 oz. The difference...

    Bullet Making

RG You truly are a 25 cal guru. I have access to a 250 Ack. Imp. and 257 Robt. Imp. reamers, but have never been interested in fooling with them due to the type bullets available. Actually have a 25-06 Ack. reamer too. I think you are right about the 257 Robt. Ack being the best 25. Wont it...

    Bullet Making

RG The first rifle I ever build was a 25-06! Didn't" know a thing about BR shooting back then, it weighed 14 lbs. and was fairly accurate, or so I thought!!. For some reason I just wanted a 25 cal. Eventually found out about BR shooting, and was hooked. On your 25 project, can you get 25 cal...

Short Action Customs does not support neck turning

Actually with the brass available today, there is no need to run a .262" neck in a PPC. That dimension was a result of the Sako brass that was first used to make PPC cases, the necks were too thin to go any larger. Had nothing to do with accuracy being better. FWIW Steve Kostanich

    Bullet Making

RG You mentioned Allen Bench in a post here. I knew him well, he was one of my mentors in my early years. He was generous to a fault, gave me a Pindell 30 cal point up die that makes very nice bullets, a Pat McMillan 22 barrel that had polygon rifling that shoots quite well, and a partially...

    Old powders

Recently did some testing of RL-7 in my 30BR. The powder was 40+ years old, and actually shot quite well. Shot 5 groups for score on a 100 yard score target. Got a 250, but no X count as the centers were too shot up to see the dot. Turns out to be a viable alternative to the no longer available...

    Shilen DGA Bolt Disassembly

Sam, It may be possible for a handy 'smith to simply fabricate a new front end on the original pin body. I have made several bolts for myself, and made the firing pin that way. The portion in front of the shoulder has the tip part threaded and Loctited into the main body. It is over size at...

Barrel dimensions for benchrest centre fire

Mark t, Mark B. didn't mention the Hunter Class barrel dimensions, which Bartlein barrels makes, 1.25" for 4" tapering to .75" at 26" A great alternative if you have a big weight problem. Can't remember Bartlein's # for the contour. FWIW Steve Kostanich

    30br powders

30BR and Reloader-7 Just did some testing with RL-7 in my 30BR, and I thought it looked pretty promising. Shot around five times on a 100 yd score target to get a 100 yd agg. Was a 250 with undetermined X count as the centers was so shot up the dot was gone on each bull. Tried 33.7 gr.,34.2...

    What is it?.

Greg, Just guessing, but I would say it is a Heavy Varmint class short range BR rifle. may have been built back in the '70's, when the Slilen family owned the business. The stock is a Shilen laminate that they were making about that time. The bolt must be an after market piece, as Rem. bolts...

    Hines jackets

I have made bullets on Hines jackets. They shot very well. I wish they would make a run of .750" jackets. Up here in the NW several of us really liked the J-4 .750" jkts that are no longer available. A 64 gr. bullet on a .750" is perfect in a 14" twist. Since most short range bullets are now...

    We Remember

Re: post 228 I did not know that Tom Dickson passed. He was one of the finest craftsmen I ever have the pleasure to know. Everything Tom did was first class and usually a work of art, from rifles , to hot rod cars and radio control model airplanes. RIP Tom you were the best, and oh, a REALLY...
