The Whittington Score Shooters club has again received the bid for the Short Range Score Nationals.

The NBRSA Short Range Score Nationals will be held at the NRA Whittington Center near Raton, New Mexico July 23rd through 26th, 2024. The Varmint for Score will be contested Tuesday and Wednesday (23rd and 24th ) and the Hunter Nationals on Thursday and Friday ( 25th and 26th ).

The Whittington Center has multiple ranges that can be used prior to the event and we will have exclusive use of the Coors Range on Monday prior to our shoot at which time we can have targets set up for both 100 and 200 yard practice. We will shut the practice off around 4 pm on Monday to set target frames and flags. The Rio Grande Benchrest Shooters is hosting a NBRSA registered group shoot on the weekend of July 20th and 21st on their normal competition dates. Check with them about competing in their group match if you are interested.

Remind your group shoot buddies that their varmint rifles are legal in the Varmint for Score matches without modification.

We anticipate larger numbers of shooters and we are anticipating using 7 target frames and shooting on a 7 bench rotation. We are soliciting flag rotations now and will advise who the sponsors are when finalized. If you are interested in hosting a flag rotation please email Al Elliott at the email address below.

A few things to know about the NRA Whittington Ranges:

There is a fee for each day you shoot prior to the actual matches and practice day.

There is a Whittington Center Hold Harmless form you need to execute before you shoot

( online is the easiest )

Lodging and RV sites at the Whittington Center can be reserved beginning February 1st, 2024. Go on the Whittington Center website ( NRAWC.org) for information. Get your reservations early as there is a lot going on at the Center.

There are other restrictions such as pets, etc. you will need to check out on the NRA Whittington Center website. Look at the Whittington Center website at all of the activity it hosts.

Our email address is Whittingtonshoot@gmail.

If you have any suggestions or questions please send us an email. We will get more information out as we go through the preparations. If you know of anyone who may be interested send this email on to them and have them contact me to be put on the email list.

Hope to see you there.

With the increase in flag rotations, do the left hand shooters want a dedicated "left Hand" flag rotation? If so, do one of you left-handers have enough flags to sponsor a rotation? About 30 flags?
Thanks,
Al Elliott

If it has been a while since you attended a National Score match or perhaps you have never attended one, it is time to seriously think about going to this years match at the Whittington Center in Raton, NM. The Coors range there was conceived by Score Benchrest shooters and ultimately built by Coors. It is a world class facility with a 75 bench firing line of which we will be using 35 benches. There is a covered loading pavilion that is 300 feet long by 100 feet wide. Yes, you read that correctly. 100 yards long! Inside, there are something like 85 picnic tables so a whole bunch of people can enjoy their very own table without sharing. Of course you can always share if you so wish. With a range 75 benches wide and not much on either side and massive mountains in the background, it is a splendid place to go shoot. There will also most likely be a cease fire or two so wildlife can be evicted from the range. Where else can you enjoy a setup like that? Oh, and all flags will be supplied as we have seven flag rotation sponsors so as you rotate across the range you will be looking at the same flag setup on every bench.
You can find the match application blank on the NBRSA website at ( https://www.nbrsa.org/.../upl.../2024/01/2024-Entry-Form.pdf ) Get with your road trip buddy, fill out your applications and get ready to have the time of your life.
See you there!

There are now just 12 Tuesdays between now and the opening day of the match. Its time for serious preparation and practice.

That means if you practice one day a week, you only have 12 days to get set for the match.
