    308x1.5

Could be the difference, for sure. You could cut a 308 fl die off and try that. Sometimes a seating die cut down is useful.

    308x1.5

Current 6BR brass is bigger at the back end than the 308 brass of that era was. But the reamer that was used originally will be the wild card. One possibility is the Peterson 7BR brass. Plus the front end differences, as well. You could measure the chamber cast and see..but remember that...

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Assuming the neck diameter is ok with a bullet seated....load one and fire it. That's the best chamber cast. ;) -Al

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

If you're trying brass in that Mauser, try removing the firing pin assy and putting the case into the bolt face...so the extractor is in the extractor groove. Have you checked the neck diameter?

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Now that you've confirmed it's a 308W chamber, make sure and check the chamber neck diameter and the chamber length. Pay attention to the back end dimension as newer 308W brass like Lapua will be a bit bigger. Cool vintage guns...enjoy them! :) -Al

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Assuming the bolts are for the .473 family, the 308W is a likely one. It was used quite a bit in that time frame. If you have a 243W, 260 or 7-08 case, see if it will chamber.

    Rebated Boat Tails???

No hero, guys. I didn't start that thread (over 70K views) to give advice on bullet making. I'm a one trick pony with a good set of dies and an excellent mentor (Randy 'R.G.' Robinett) who has helped me along the bullet making trail for years...and continues to do so to this day...

Mike, those HF units look pretty slick. HF has really upped their game on stuff. The Predator line is darn good. When I got my Chargemaster Link and the Talent Cell battery linked above (not the smaller 3000 unit), I set it all up at home and dispensed 100 charges each day to simulate...

    Target Backer Material

We use Corroplast type material at our range with the paper targets just stapled to it. Works well and has a decent life span.

I think you're right, Jerry. The bulk density of an individual powder is likely another factor. My dream powder for the 30BR's would be a short cut version of H4198 (kernels about 2/3rds the current length). H4198SC has a nice Hodgden-y ring to it. :giggle: Good shootin' :) -Al

Pete, don't overlook the 'other N'...N120. Some are having very good luck with it. It's quite a bit cleaner than N130. -Al
